Family Law
Marriage, its end, and what follows: khula and divorce, maintenance, custody of children, and the return of dower and dowry. Most of it is decided by Family Courts, which are meant to settle cases faster than ordinary civil courts and must first try to reconcile the parties.

Family Courts in every district, under the West Pakistan Family Courts Act 1964. Guardianship and custody go to the Guardian Judge under the Guardians and Wards Act 1890. Talaq is notified to the Union Council chairman under section 7 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961. Appeals go to the District Judge or the High Court.

- Khula, and dissolution of marriage under the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act 1939
- Maintenance for a wife and children, including interim maintenance while the case runs
- Custody and guardianship of minor children, and visitation
- Recovery of dower (haq mehr) and dowry articles, and talaq notices through the Union Council
Papers to gather first
- 1Nikah nama, and any later talaq or Union Council papers
- 2CNICs of both spouses and B-forms of the children
- 3List of dowry articles, with receipts or photos if you have them
- 4Proof of income or expenses that bear on maintenance
