Online harassment, blackmail or hacking
You can start this on your own. The steps below show how.
Online harassment, blackmail, fake profiles, hacking and online fraud are crimes. You can report them yourself to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), which took over this work from the FIA Cybercrime Wing.
The law
Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 (PECA)
What to do
- 1
Do not delete anything and do not pay a blackmailer. Take screenshots that show the profile link, username, date and time.
- 2
Secure your accounts: change passwords and turn on two-step verification.
- 3
File a complaint on the NCCIA complaint portal or at its nearest circle office. The helpline is 1799.
- 4
Report the content to the platform, and to the PTA complaint portal to get it taken down.
Keep these ready
- Screenshots with links, usernames and dates
- Phone numbers or accounts used against you
- Bank or wallet receipts, if money was taken
- Copy of your CNIC
When to get a lawyer
Get a lawyer if you are threatened with violence, the case reaches court, or someone files a PECA case against you.
- How long it takes
- Inquiries can take weeks; follow up with your complaint number
- Cost
- Filing a complaint is free
